Eastwood claims politcal correctness ruined ethnic jokes

Tough guy and film legend Clint Eastwood says that the runaway political correctness has ruined the ability to tell harmless ethnic jokes:

“People have lost their sense of humour. In former times we constantly made jokes about different races. You can only tell them today with one hand over your mouth or you will be insulted as a racist. I find that ridiculous. In those earlier days every friendly clique had a ‘Sam the Jew’ or ‘Jose the Mexican’ – but we didn’t think anything of it or have a racist thought. It was just normal that we made jokes based on our nationality or ethnicity. That was never a problem. I don’t want to be politically correct. We’re all spending too much time and energy trying to be politically correct about everything,”

I wonder if he would be saying such crazy talk if he were in his early forties and still trying to make a career?

In other news Dean Grose, the seemingly racist mayor of Los Alamitos, CA has resigned for crude ethnic humor:

The mayor of a small Southern California city says he will resign after being criticized for sharing an e-mail picture depicting the White House lawn planted with watermelons under the title “No Easter egg hunt this year.”

Maybe these “friendly cliques” are not so harmless any more.

A life goes up in smoke

The tragedy of this story…

A 58-year-old Wal-Mart employee who said he “couldn’t take it anymore” lit himself on fire in a parking lot near the Bloomingdale store where he worked late Thursday night and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, authorities said this morning.

…is that nobody had a clue that there was even anything wrong with the guy–not his son, co-worker, boss, nobody. As far as anyone knew everything was A-OK with the burning man.  How many millions of people suffer in silence, I wonder?

Strangely enough I just watch The Dead Pool last night where a guy doused himself in lighter fluid and burned himself up in a parking lot. Except in the movie as soon as he went up in flames he was willing to let people try to put him out. I think after you get caught on fire, it’s best probably not to get put out.
